CLINIC'S LAWYER ANGRY AT POLITICIAN
City Hall - A lawyer for a methadone clinic searching for a new home
blasted an alderman Thursday and said the clinic might have to shut
down if opposition to a proposed new location holds up.
Hugh Ham, representing Second Chance Recovery, took issue with Ald.
Andre Chabot's vehement protest to the clinic exploring a new spot in
Forest Lawn, which is in Chabot's ward.
The clinic was forced to relocate this week after a city appeal board
ruled it wasn't allowed at its current northeast location because the
site wasn't zoned to house a medical clinic.
Chabot doesn't want the clinic in his ward, saying he doesn't believe
in methadone, which is used to get addicts off heroin.
Ham took exception to Chabot's diagnosis.
"I don't recall seeing the initials 'MD' after Alderman Chabot's
name, so I don't consider him an expert on the issue," Ham said. "I'm
hoping alderman Chabot was overreacting to some concerns expressed in
the community."
