REPLACING ONE EVIL WITH MORE

Editor:

Re: Online question of the week, March 6-12.

Legalize marijuana? No way.

The repeal of prohibition in the U.S. did not solve the problem of
gangs. Organized crime still exists there - The Godfather and The
Sopranos are based on fact.

The cause of crime is the love of money.

Tobacco use results in cancer, air pollution, careless smoking, fires
and death, etc. It is the first step toward alcohol use and abuse,
with more evils - domestic violence, brawling, stabbings, false
confidence, drunk driving, etc. - as well as a constant, but
avoidable, drain on our medical budgets.

Battered criminals expect to receive priority at our hospitals, while
innocent citizens suffer and wait for medical care.

Society is attempting to eliminate use of tobacco products with its
destruction of human beings, with more victims emerging daily, and
with its pollution contributing to global warming. This planet is
poised for eventual self-destruction.

Stamp out tobacco! Clear the air! Not if marijuana use is
legalized.

Its stench also is much worse than that of tobacco, its use closely
followed with experimenting with hard drugs, cocaine and the like.

It would be irresponsible to replace one evil with
another.

Will gang wars cease if we give in? Allied Armed Forces in the Second
World War valiantly stood up to Nazi fascist bullies. Consult Scrooge
McDuck, he knew how to outwit the Beagle Boys!

Do you tell your defenceless kid to "just say no" while you cower and
say "yes?" Does that make sense?

Don't open Pandora's box; this world is already oversupplied with
unnecessary evils.

Only drug dealers, addicts and the gullible would endorse legalizing
the use of marijuana.
