I'VE BEEN COMPOSING IN MY HEAD FOR WEEKS NOW
Hurray! Vaughn Spunaugle (Times, March 19) wrote the letter,
"Legalize drugs," I've been composing in my head for weeks now.
The drug war is a joke. It's reported that 5.7 tons of the stuff is
confiscated; and so what? Any slowdown in the street supply? I doubt it.
Yes, legalize, regulate and tax. California would get in the black,
along with the rest of the United States. Border wars in Mexico and
turf wars in Afghanistan would stop.
Huge drug-lord profits and the accompanying crimes would be greatly
reduced. If the United States does it, other countries will follow.
Let's grow up, face and embrace reality, and make lots of money for
the public good.
