TAX DRUGS
I like Mark Tonner, but I have to disagree with his column on gangs
and prohibition.
Prohibition was ended in the U.S. because it wasn't enforceable.
Despite the laws, despite the police, drugs are still widely used and
all proceeds are going underground.
The cost of paying people to deal, to go underground and evade police
jacks the price up.
I don't like the idea of regulating and taxing drugs, but it's
obvious people aren't going to stop using them. Ever.
Besides, with profits from taxation and sales, maybe we can lower the
price of booze. Lord knows our taxes won't go down.
