PRISON TIME IS WRONG

Re: "Is it time to legalize? There are questions to answer before we
do anything, says Tod Robberson," Wednesday Viewpoints.

People who support the prohibition of drugs have funded a plethora of
criminal organizations for decades. Even if the prohibition was ended
tomorrow, those cartels will still have hundreds of millions to
continue their criminal activities.

That is the legacy of the drug war.

Once drugs are legal, drug prices will plummet, and there goes their
enormous profits. There are a variety of safeguards that will address
Robberson's legitimate concerns over how to implement the repeal of
prohibition, but even if there weren't, we as a nation must live up
to our own ideals.
We must recognize that putting people in prison for making personal
decisions as to what or what not to put in their own bodies is wrong.
