DON'T ADD METH TO THE MIX

Re: "Is it time to legalize? It's the only way for the U.S to control
the demand for drugs, say Andres Rozental and Stanley A. Weiss,"
Wednesday Viewpoints.

I'm always interested in pro-legalization movements and literature
and was pleased to read the column.

It all seemed well enough and was an enjoyable read until I
approached the end and read: "It is now clear that marijuana and
methamphetamines do not have the same harmful effects as cocaine,
heroin, opium and other hard drugs."

Since when are methamphetamines not hard drugs? Speed, crank, ice,
meth -- these all sound like hard drugs to me -- and that's because
they are. I've seen people reduced to almost nothing because of these drugs.
Either Rozental and Weiss were involved in a very unfortunate
misprint, or they actually oppose the legalization of marijuana and
are trying to cleverly mislead the public.
