LESS LEGALESE, MORE PARENTING

"Whose rights win?" (Feb. 26) -

Maybe it's time Jean Grant looked into some basic parenting guidelines
instead of the Education Act.

She says of her son: "The issue is not whether or not he smoked pot."
Hello, Mars to Jean, that's exactly what the issue is about. If you
don't think so just ask Michael Phelps.

Maybe if Ms. Grant had looked into little Nicky's room, backpack and
friends as he was growing up, the school officials wouldn't have to do
her job for her today. Just because mom doesn't like the way her son
was caught doesn't negate the fact he was using and selling drugs.

She also says "they are punishing them for being teenagers." Once
again, an attempt to avoid responsibility by blaming someone else. For
her information, being a teenager doesn't automatically mean doing and
selling drugs.

Isn't it time for the majority of parents of good, law-abiding
students at PCVS to speak up? Parents of children who are trying their
best at school and don't want their schools reputation tarnished.
Phone the school or write the newspaper in support of the staff at
PCVS. After all, this action and policy is to protect your children.

Finally, to Nick's mom -take the bloody phone and earphones away from
him while at school. He (along with every other student) needs to
focus, listen, pay attention and participate in order to succeed. What
Nick doesn't need is his mother clouding up the waters so we miss the
real issue -his illegal behaviour!
