POT POSES GRAVE DANGERS
Re "Legal pot: A cash harvest for state?" (Page A1, Feb. 24): I am
disgusted by the presentation of the marijuana issue on the front page
of The Bee. And now again in vivid color is another image of the
marijuana leaf on the editorial page on Feb. 27.
This is an unseemly attempt to desensitize all to a probable
transition to legalization of the sale and use of this highly
addictive substance in the state of California. Marijuana is not a
monetary issue. Those who live or have lived with the effects of
marijuana, either as the user or the family member/friend of the user,
know full well the pervasive damage that this chemical substance can
cause. The addiction to marijuana, unlike alcohol, is too often denied.
I adamantly disagree with this legislation and the moral decline
promoted by legislators such as Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San
Francisco. For the general wellness of our community and for the
future of our children, I intend to continue speaking out against the
legalization of this addictive chemical substance.
