LOCAL METH TASK FORCE GETTING BOOST

Carol Secondiak, chair of the Palliser Health Board, and a member of
the Premier's Crystal Meth Task Force, was recently at an agenda
meeting for the Force.

"I discussed some initiatives for here (Palliser). We will be getting
two mobile counsellors in the region for sure," she says. "But we're
still pushing for treatment beds."

The Stronger Together meth conference was held in Edmonton in May.
About 365 people from across Canada and the United States attended
the event. Secondiak says much of the conference dealt with
strategies to stop meth from coming to smaller areas.

Methamphetamine is a substance that widely affects the body and mind.
It can make people violent and is extremely addictive and deadly.

The Premier's Meth Task Force was put in place in 2005. It has
members from across the province. A main goal of the Task Force is to
learn and implement strategies to combat the drug in Alberta.
