ACCUSED B.C. DRUG SMUGGLER KILLS HIMSELF IN U.S. JAIL
Police in Washington state are investigating after a B.C. man accused
of drug smuggling killed himself in the Spokane County Jail.
Sgt. Joe Peterson of Spokane police said yesterday that Samuel
Lindsay-Brown, 24, from Revelstoke, was found alone in his jail cell
hanging by a sheet some time after he had been served lunch on Feb.
27.
Peterson said an autopsy showed Lindsay-Brown had eaten lunch and then
died from strangulation.
"He somehow jammed a towel over the window that (the jailer) could
look through," he said.
"Jails are pretty secure now to prevent people from harming
themselves," he said. "In my experience if someone is absolutely
intent on harming themselves they can usually do it one way or another."
The female guard noticed the towel over the window and entered the
cell where she found the man already dead, said Peterson.
Lindsay-Brown was arrested Feb. 23 for allegedly smuggling marijuana
across the border.
Peterson said Lindsay-Brown was awaiting trial at the time of his
death.
