ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR IN YEARBOOK NEEDS STERN RESPONSE

North Central High School recently published a yearbook glorifying
teenage drinking and marijuana use. I was ashamed of the faculty
adviser's endorsement that this depicted "real life" and the
superintendent's neutral response that "yearbooks . . . have
changed." I suggest the faculty adviser be relieved of his duties,
and I offer to help the superintendent find his backbone.

Perhaps he should ask Dr. Eugene White, former superintendent of
Washington Township Schools and a disciplinarian, how best to handle
this situation. Right and wrong have not changed. The legality of
drug abuse and underage drinking has not changed.

Unfortunately, the adult response to teenage misbehavior has changed.

I graduated proudly from North Central and live in Washington
Township. My wife wants to send our children to private schools. If
the administration's leadership has so decayed, perhaps children
would be better served elsewhere.
