MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL DESERVES CONSIDERATION
I've been closely following the articles being written with
information on all sides on the marijuana issue (Feb. 8-11: "Pot
Debate" series).
Let's first say, as of right now, it's against the law. So, Mr. David
Orde and son Andrew, of Hollis, are dead wrong, and the smile on his
face in the Feb. 8 paper just shows his attitude as being, "I smoke
it, I like it." Well, sorry, but that doesn't make it right.
You're breaking the law.
As for the medicinal use for those suffering, I'm all for it. We all
know loved ones who are suffering.
The pharmaceutical companies want us to have OxyContin, Percocet, etc.
- - more money for them, let's face it, they're in business.
I believe in some instances these drugs have their place. But on the
Feb. 11 front page, the young man who uses marijuana - to help him
live, eat, not have pain, no side effects - means more to me than a
pill from companies.
I believe it should be enacted to be within the law for these
purposes, and not by pill form, but the actual substance. The
gentleman from Hollis is showing us and our children that, law or no
law, he'll do as he pleases, and that is a pretty serious case to make.
I know many adults that use marijuana and think nothing of it.
Somehow, it being against the law isn't getting through to their
brains as they really just don't care.
