ACCOUNTANTS, NOT POLICE

We don't need more homicide detectives to combat the epidemic of gang
violence. We need more accountants. Al Capone was finally imprisoned
not for murder or robbery but for tax evasion. If suspected drug
dealers can't buy a house or car without having to explain the income
source, where's the incentive to sell drugs? What we need is a few
good forensic accountants who can follow the trail through their
money-laundering schemes. If criminals are imprisoned for tax
evasion, they're off the streets. Mission accomplished.
