RIGHTS TRAMPLED
Re: 'Inmates conning us over drugs,' Point of View, Paul Rutherford. Feb.
11.
I am shocked at how easily you would throw away our constitutional
rights over an issue like prison inmates taking drugs. Each time we
believe that some issue is more important than the Charter, we
demonstrate how much we take our freedoms for granted. If the Charter
can simply be ignored because it is "inconvenient", we will end up
effectively with no Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is unfortunate
that people are willing to throw away the Charter because it effects
someone else and not themselves. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is
vastly more important than the issue of inmates taking drugs.
