NOBODY CARES ABOUT POT

Re "Pot smoking Olympian? Dumb, da dumb dumb" (Feb.
8):

In the narrow-minded world of Rachel Sa, Michael Phelps is apparently
"dumb" because he was photographed "tapping the bong." Perhaps Phelps,
regardless of his professional status and like millions all over North
America, has grown completely apathetic and indifferent to the notion
of pot use, and therefore couldn't care less who sees him partake. Is
there any wonder why? American presidents have been elected who
admittedly used pot -- or even harder drugs, like cocaine. Pot
paraphernalia shops exist all over North America. Pot has its own
magazine (High Times). Pot charges get tossed out of courtrooms like
candy on Halloween. Does the phrase "mixed message" ring any bells? If
Phelps is a role model, it's because the media labelled him as such,
and subsequently placed him on that pedestal -- while Phelps' only
concern was the first-place podium. The same neophytes calling him
"dumb" will care nothing for his supposed lack of intelligence when
they require another gold medal for America -- or 14, in his case. How
quickly they will forgive his indiscretion, just as they forgave
"Bubba Bill" Clinton. Sending mixed messages is bad enough. Let's not
be hypocrites as well.

(Interesting argument. Kellogs didn't buy it and dumped Phelps)
