RIDING A HORSE IS AS RISKY AS TAKING ECSTASY, SAYS DRUG PROFESSOR
TAKING ecstasy is no riskier than riding a horse, government drug
expert Professor David Nutt claimed yesterday.
He said riding causes more than 100 deaths a year, compared to around
30 from ecstasy.
But his comments have been discredited after it emerged only 10
riders die a year.
The professor heads the Home Office's Advisory Council on the Misuse
of Drugs, which wants ecstasy downgraded to class B.
David Raynes, of the National Drug Prevention Alliance, says he must quit.
He said: "His view conflicts with his public duty."
