WHITE STILL WAGING WAR ON DRUGS
Former Abbotsford (Conservative) MP Randy White isn't sitting on his
laurels in the war against drugs.
As president of the Drug Prevention Network of Canada, White is
attending a global conference in England on drug prevention this
summer, which he hopes will influence the Canadian government into a
new direction.
He is attending an international conference on drugs taking place in
London, England from Aug. 5 to 10.
This conference is preparing for the United Nations General Assembly
Special Session on Drugs in 2008 and is critical to the development of
world drug policy.
"From the Drug Prevention Network of Canada's perspective we
appreciate being asked to participate," White said in a press release.
He is optimistic that the outcome of this conference will encourage
Prime Minister Harper's government to lead its bureaucracy in a
direction that will focus on treatment, prevention and
enforcement.
White's organization was invited to take part in the
conference.
The former MP believes the conference will help influence the future
of drug policies globally and provide significant guidelines for
rational drug strategies, something the Conservative government and
Canadians should be very interested in.
"Canada has drifted in its approach to policies related to treatment,
prevention and enforcement of drug issues since the mid '90s and now
significant steps are being taken world wide to correct this," White
said.
"Hopefully the national government will take a new lead in policy
since Prime Minister Harper seems to be open to doing so," said DPNC
vice president Ben Jenkins, who will be attending the conference along
with White.
"Significant global decisions are expected to be made during this
conference and principles of promoting drug free lifestyles, non
legalization of drugs, and no abuse of legal drugs, will be prominent
on the agenda," White said.
