PEOPLE ON DRUGS
Now that there's been an avalanche of the predictable responses to the
addendum by Mr. O'Rourke, may I offer a view that perhaps Beto and the
rest of the council have not considered. As a professional manager, I know
the consequences of impaired judgment brought upon by either alcohol or
drugs on a regular factory employee.
I do not know of any drug effect that goes away magically the following
morning.
Now, I am not saying that all workers will immediately be rushing to
consume the now legal drugs. I am saying to consider that one forklift
driver, or that one dental assistant, etc., who would have partaken of the
legal drugs. How would his/her performance be under the influence?
A group of people would always use the "personal responsibility"
corollary, but look at how it has failed with the obesity problem, smoking
deaths, etc.
Being progressive is more than just being contrary to what this city has
stood for since its inception.
