2 CHIHUAHUA CITY POLICE OFFICERS KILLED
EL PASO - Two Chihuahua City police officers were shot and killed
Tuesday night as the wave of violence continues in different parts of
the state of Chihuahua, state police said Wednesday.
Both shootings occurred at about 9 p.m. a few blocks apart in
downtown Chihuahua City. State police said Gerardo Olivas Almanza,
26, was killed when gunmen fired at his patrol vehicle and officer
Luis Aguilar Larrazolo, 39, was shot to death a few blocks away.
The state of Chihuahua, including the city of Juarez, has seen
homicides daily in various towns and cities since last year fueled in
part by a war among drug traffickers.
Besides the police officers killed, there were three other homicides
on Tuesday in Chihuahua City.
Plus, three unidentified men, who appeared to be in their late 20s to
early 40s, were found shot to death on the Chihuahua-Aldama highway,
state police said. One of the men wore a "DARE Chihuahua" T-shirt.
DARE, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is an
anti-drug program for children and teenagers.
