MAN WHO USED STUN GUN ON OFFICER FACES FELONY ASSAULT CHARGE

A 26-year-old man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly took
an Austin police officer's stun gun and shot it into one of the
officer's feet earlier this week.

Dominique Lamar Knox, 805 21st St. N.E., appeared Friday in Mower
District Court for single counts of first-degree drug crime,
second-degree drug crime, disarming a police officer, fleeing police
in a motor vehicle and fourth-degree assault of a police officer,
all felonies.

Judge Donald E. Rysavy set bail for Knox at $1 million without
conditions or $250,000 with conditions.

Knox was placed on supervised release from state prison in August
2008 after serving two years for a felony conviction of second-degree
drug crime in Mower County, records show.

According to the criminal complaint, Knox sped away after police
stopped his vehicle about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of
First Drive Northwest for driving with no lights.

Knox eventually crashed the car into a snow bank at Fifth Street and
Fifth Avenue Northwest and ran off, the complaint says.

At the 603 Third Ave. N.W. residence, officer Ryan Leif caught Knox.
During a struggle, Knox allegedly took Leif's Taser and shot the stun
gun into Leif's left foot.

Officers eventually got control of Knox.

Leif had puncture marks in his boot and foot from the
Taser.

In Knox's car, police seized about 19.1 grams of cocaine wrapped in
nine packages, about 25.8 grams of marijuana and a digital scale, the
complaint says.

Knox is scheduled to return to court Feb. 5.
