COUNCIL MEMBERS SHOW NO BACKBONE
It is always interesting to watch who in politics will stand by the
courage of their convictions, and who will turn and hide when push
comes to shove. I commend the four City Council members who stood by
what they originally voted for in the resolution concerning the drug
wars in Juarez. I even commend Mayor Cook for maintaining his position.
For the four members who changed their vote when big, bad Congressman
Silvestre Reyes said "boo!" I only have extreme disappointment in
their judgment.
Why did they vote in favor of the resolution the first time if they
did not believe in what it called for?
I have read the resolution, and nowhere did I find any support for the
legalization of narcotics. All I saw was a call for discussion.
In this country we seem to be afraid to talk about things. We hope if
we don't talk about them they will get better on their own, or just go
away.
That seldom happens. It is what we are afraid to talk about that
usually gets us into trouble.
