DAD SHOT DEAD IN STREET WORKED FOR DRUGS

A father-of-one shot dead at the weekend was a drug runner for a major
dealer.

Martyn Barclay, 26, is believed to have worked for the kingpin who
supplies cocaine and heroin to the Inch area of Edinburgh.

Police yesterday confirmed the identity of the murder victim, who was shot
in the head around 6am on Saturday. He was found lying unconscious in a
pool of blood in Hazelwood Grove in the Inch area by a passerby.

Fears are growing a major drugs war is set to break out in the capital as
the gang Barclay are associated with seek revenge. There was a spate of
shootings last year as criminals from Granton and Royston are locked in
battle with the Inch gang.

Last night, a source said: "It's common knowledge that Martyn worked for
the drug dealers. Law-abiding citizens tend not to get shot in the head
first thing in the morning.

"Local people are worried about the prospect of more tit-for-tat violence
and are worried in case an innocent person gets hurt. "

Yesterday, forensic examinations continued at the murder scene. Chief
Inspector Donnie Mackinnon appealed for information.

He said: "In particular, we are keen to speak to a man and woman in their
early 20s who visited the petrol station near the Edinburgh Royal
Infirmary in the early hours of Saturday morning."
