Editor's note: The Times received many letters concerning the City
Council resolution including language about discussing legalization
of drugs. Some of these were written before the resolution veto was upheld.
STOP CARS
I would like to suggest something that might not be very welcome
among many residents along both border towns. Why not stop car
traffic on the international bridges, going both ways?
This would greatly reduce the amount of drugs coming into the U.S.
and reduce the amount of money, weapons and ammunition going into Mexico.
Only hand out purchased vehicle permits, like what Mexico does when
you travel south. The CBP agents can then be focused on inspecting
100 percent of semi-trailers coming in from Mexico, and pedestrians.
Also, this might boost the Downtown economy for both cities by using
more mass transit or pedicabs. You can even have more garages where
you park your car while you go to either city, and at the same time
get a car wash or an oil change.
