YOU MISSED A GOOD ONE

Experts from the law enforcement, prosecution, child protective
services, medical, education and psychosocial treatment fields came
together last Friday for the Dallas Regional Drug Endangered Children
Conference.

It focused on issues threatening the safety of children, from exposure
to parental drug abuse to drug trafficking and methamphetamine
manufacturing.

The conference was capped by the historic signing of an agreement
pledging the cooperative efforts of the district attorney's office,
Child Protective Services, educational and child treatment providers
and most Dallas County police departments.

Seeing the heads of these agencies sign this agreement was not only
inspiring, but rare in scope. That The Dallas Morning News could not
find even an inch of space to report this is not only baffling but
disappointing.

And if there ever was an item worth the weekly "Hits and Misses"
feature on Saturday's editorial page, this was it.

Efforts like this conference are every bit as newsworthy as the "bad
news" you never seem to miss a chance to print.
