FRESNO LAW KEEPS OUT MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARY

Medical marijuana activists are trying to overcome a restrictive city
ordinance to open the first dispensaries in Fresno.

Two groups are trying to open dispensaries but are running into a city
law that says medical marijuana businesses must comply with both state
and federal laws. Federal law does not allow for medical use of marijuana.

Fresno County became the 41st in the state to participate in
California's Medical Marijuana Program registry last year. But there
still are no medical marijuana dispensaries or official cooperatives
anywhere in the county.

Council member Lee Brand says if medical marijuana dispensaries are so
important to people, "maybe they should move to San Francisco."
