BACKS VETO

Thank you very much for vetoing the resolution from the Border
Relations Committee. I totally agree that the 12th-step amendment by
South-West city Rep. Beto O'Rourke would have negatively impacted the
credibility of the resolution.

As a father of five children, I am having issues with the inability of
our city to prevent minors under 18 access to already legal
substances, like tobacco and alcohol products.

Furthermore, taxes from the legal sale of these products are not used
to fund treatment for individuals who suffer addictions to these substances.

I would hope that our country would solve the current problems with
already legal substances before legalizing new substances.

Perhaps a better message to the rest of the country would be for El
Paso to start using some of the monies obtained from drug busts to
fund the El Paso Drug Rehabilitation Center. Helping those break free
of drug addictions is one way to reduce demand for illegal drugs and
improve lives.
