LARGE DRUG DISCOVERY AT SANTA TERESA PORT
SANTA TERESA, N.M.-U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents seized
more than a ton of marijuana, the largest drug bust in more than six
years at the Santa Teresa port of entry. Field operations officers
seized 2,192 pounds of marijuana Thursday. In July 2002, officers
seized 2,234 pounds of marijuana at the port.
After noting irregularities in an empty refrigerated trailer, the rig
was sent for additional examination. Officers drilled into the floor
and extracted a substance later determined to be marijuana.
Authorities said the driver, 24-year-old Jesus Alfonso Jaquez Munoz of
Ascension, Chihuahua, was arrested after officers removed 530
drug-filled packages from a floor compartment.
