OVERRIDE OF MAYOR JOHN COOK VETO UP FOR VOTE TUESDAY
EL PASO - A controversial resolution condemning the violence in Juarez
that El Paso Mayor John Cook vetoed because of an addition encouraging
debate about the decriminalization of drugs will return to the City
Council next week.
South-West city Rep. Beto O'Rourke placed an item on the agenda
seeking to override Cook's veto. The agenda also includes a proposed
resolution by West-Central city Rep. Susie Byrd "calling for
comprehensive immigration reform" to be part of El Paso's state and
federal legislative agenda.
The meeting will begin with an executive session at 8:30 a.m Tuesday
in the City Council chambers in City Hall.
