CHANGE THE TONE ON MARIJUANA

Reading the article on pot ("Police hash out marijuana law," Dec.
30), I couldn't help but think that the tone of the writing, being
negative towards marijuana, was out of place. After all, the split in
the vote was definitive, suggesting that people of different ages
and occupations wish to "change the conversation" about marijuana, as
a dentist put it to me.

The conversation that got marijuana illegal was a fearful one.
Seventy-odd years after Harry Anslinger testified before Congress, we
know it was also a scientifically baseless one.

So my question is this: Can we please let responsible adults toke in
peace?
