POLICE POSER TO BE SENTENCED FRIDAY

Jakob, 36, will be sentenced this Friday morning in U.S. District Court on
multiple felony counts including wire and mail fraud and lying to federal
officers. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Judge Rodney
W. Sippel's court.

In September Jakob entered guilty pleas under a settlement in which he is
expected to serve between 60 and 72 months in federal prison. His attorney
told The Missourian at that time that his client would get a five-year term
under the plea bargain.

Jakob entered guilty pleas in two separate investigations - the Gerald
impersonation case and an earlier case in which he posed as a contracting
officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers while employed at Total Lock &
Security Company, Maryland Heights.

Gerald police and town officials claimed they were duped into believing
that Jakob actually was a federal agent assigned to help rid Gerald of drug
offenders.

At least 17 people who were targeted by the Gerald Police Department have
filed lawsuits alleging their civil rights were violated. None of the
suspects arrested were ever charged in the raids.

Others involved in the raids, including former police chief Ryan McCrary,
are said to be still under investigation for their roles in the case, but
they have not been charged.

While he was working with Gerald police, Jakob represented himself at
different times as either an officer and employee of the U.S. Drug
Enforcement Agency, an agent of the U.S. Department of Justice Multi
Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force, or as a U.S. marshal.
