MAHALO FROM DRUG COURT
At the end of this calendar year, I wish to express my appreciation
for a successful program: The Kaua'i Drug Court.
We have graduated about 60 clients since inception. A large majority
of the graduates are still drug-free and lead productive lives.
Many alumni are active and mentor the new clients to their goal of
graduation.
The staff, Jack Viohl, Araceli Gonzalez, Jennifer Tone, ToriAnn
Laranio and Tammy Kakutani, give selflessly of themselves and their
time to contribute to the success.
The Friends Group, Dean Toyofuku, Clyde Nakaya, Mel Rapozo, Cathy
Shibuya, MaryAnn Ornellas, and Kim Foster also donate their time to
help fund some of the projects and supplies.
Mahalo to major sponsors Kaua'i United Way, and the Visitor Industry
Charity Walk.
Without all of these people, these agencies, and the support of our
Chief Darryl Perry, prosecutor Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho, public
defender Edmund Acoba, Administrative Judge Randal Valenciano, Circuit
Judge Kathleen Watanabe and Drug Court Judge Calvin Murashige, and
administrative staff, Steven Okihara and Ernest Barreira, none of this
would be possible.
Mahalo also to Mayor Bernard Carvalho, the county council, Adopt a
Park Coordinator Eddie Sarita, Anti-Drug Coordinator Theresa Koki, and
our legislators Senator Hooser, Representatives Mina Morita, Roland
Sagum and James Tokioka for their support.
We look forward to continued success and progress in the new year. For
information about us, please call me at 482-2365.
