REP. DON MAROSTICA LENDS ANTI-DRUG EFFORT HIS SUPPORT
Don Marostica has a concern. He's seen what substance abuse can do to
people, and he knows that many times the stories involve children.
Based on that, and having seen people in prisons and jails who
struggle with substance abuse, the state representative from Loveland
has lent his name to a local anti-methamphetamine campaign.
Marostica has teamed up with John Giroux's CLEAR - the Coalition of
Loveland for Education, Awareness and Resources in the fight against
meth - to help the group raise money.
That money will be used to develop an educational DVD and distribute
it throughout the city.
"For me, it's the children that are involved that I'm very concerned
about," Marostica said. "I know for the adults, it's a highly
addictive drug, but so many of them have children. I know it's
affecting a lot of children in Colorado."
Marostica will donate $500 to the campaign and ask local businesses on
his mailing list to do the same. He hopes the effort will raise the
$25,000 needed to get the project running.
"We had a letter that we put together, and Don said he would take that
and send it out to businesses he knew," Giroux said. "Don is
interested in supporting our local efforts."
Giroux has helped support a local documentary, "Crystal Darkness,"
that will be broadcast on most major television stations in Colorado
on Jan. 7.
Advertisements for the program will begin running at the end of
December, and Loveland Police Chief Luke Hecker appears in one of
them, Giroux said.
