ANF ARRESTS 118 DRUG TRAFFICKERS IN 10 MONTHS
RAWALPINDI: Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Rawalpindi Region, seized a
sizable quantity of drugs and arrested 118 alleged drug traffickers,
including 15 foreigners, during 10 months of the current year.
Sources in the force told Daily Times that over 160 kg fine quality
heroin, 3,300 kg hashish and 4 kg opium was seized during this period.
Around 100 smugglers were arrested from Benazir Bhutto Shaheed
Airport alone while trying to smuggle drugs to other countries. The
force also raided different spots including bus stations, hotels and
houses to arrest the smugglers.
Sniffer dogs and detectors played an important role in the arrest of
the drug traffickers.
Over 160 kg fine quality heroin having a street value of billions of
rupees was seized during the period. It was observed that most of the
smugglers were carrying heroin-filled capsules in their stomachs to
doge the force. Such cases were detected with the help of sniffer
dogs.
Over 3,300 kg hashish was seized from a godowns situated on Adiala
Road in August. The ANF is still investigating the case and is close
to arresting the main culprits.
Most of the smugglers tried to smuggle drugs through Afghanistan and
Iran.
