NO JUSTICE IN $100 FINE
Editor:
I regret the late submission but I just received my Wednesday, Aug. 27
edition. That said, my observation is not really date sensitive but
addresses a systemic problem in our justice system.
Re: Crime Briefs from Wednesday, Aug. 27:
In reading your Crimes In Brief section in The Interior News, I was
shocked to learn of the impossibly small $100 fine levied against the
Moricetown woman convicted of possession of narcotics for the purpose
of trafficking.
I really can't find the right words to aptly describe my complete
frustration and outrage at the sentences currently being handed out by
our legal (certainly not justice) system.
It's really a sad state of affairs that I would likely receive a
larger fine for jaywalking across the street to buy drugs from a
pusher than the fine the pusher would receive for selling me the drugs.
