FORCED TREATMENT

To the editor:

Last week in Las Vegas, drug "czar" John Walters said 60 percent of
the 7 million Americans who seek drug treatment every year are seeking
treatment for "marijuana dependence."

Funny. Perhaps he should speak with Health and Human Services
Secretary Tommy Thompson, who put out a report recently concluding
that 82.5 percent of those "marijuana treatment seekers" were seeking
treatment based on court orders, not because they or anyone they know
reasonably or rationally determined that they had any kind of drug
"problem."
