NEARLY 52,000 POT PLANTS DISCOVERED

Authorities on Tuesday yanked 51,879 pot plants in raids on three
marijuana plantations near Oak Run and Shingletown, said Shasta
County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Solus.

Deputies also arrested a Hispanic man in camouflage clothing near one
of the plantations, Solus said. They are holding the man on suspected
immigration violations, he said.

Tuesday's raids were part of a weeklong marijuana eradication effort
called "Shasta Lite."

Officers from the state Campaign Against Marijuana Planting, the
National Guard, the U.S. Forest Service, the state Department of Fish
and Game, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the National Park
Service are helping the Shasta County Sheriff's Office in the raids.
