VIGILANTE THREATS FROM FRUSTRATED PEOPLE SHOULD ALARM POLITICIANS

Editor:

The article about citizens prepared to take action (The Times, Sept.
10) is a wake-up call to the politicians that represent our community.
I am ashamed to be a citizen of Langley, striving to raise a family
and ensure that they are coming into a decent society, governed by
laws, held in principle and practised with integrity.

There is a sense of wrongness here. It seems incomprehensible.
Citizens are threatening to take law and order into their own hands
because of rampant property crime, (often rooted in drugs, addiction
and other nefarious activities).

Another article demonstrates how little punishment is handed out by
our correction system. One can safely surmise, that should police
capture some of the culprits involved in the property crime, the
recourse will be unlikely to deter future criminal activity.

Our "Community in Bloom" is misleading. The gardens are nice, but the
moral fibre and sense of justice and trust is decayed.

Allowing the ongoing state of social demise that Langley has
cultivated feels like watching a cancer consume you. Your body slowly
shuts down, before you opt for treatment. It's insidious.

When did we learn to tolerate such poor governance?
