"America needs to shift focus of war on drugs."
Recent articles and criticism aimed at Mexico, claiming Mexico is soft
on drug cartels, sounds like a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
The United States would have you believe that our war on drugs is a
serious attempt to stop the flow of narcotics into the United States.
Lets stop and consider a few things before labeling any nation as
cooperative or not.
Firat off, estimates concerning the cartels monetary worth are close to
$15 billion a year. Do you really think politicians and law enforcement
are going to shut down an operation of that magnitude?
Secondly, lets consider our intelligencegathering capacity. It is said
that some of our surveillance equipment can actually read a newspaper
article from their celestial position. Given this capacity, no one can
tell me that they can't find thousands and thousands of acres of pot
plants, poppy plants, and coca plants.
The war on drugs has turned into a war on people, and this is
unacceptable. All of our rights and freedoms are under attack because of
the war on drugs.
Minorities in this country are being greatly offended, and this will
most definitely have a negative impact on all of us. I urge all of you
to write your representatives and argue for shifting the focus of the
war on drugs to the production fields. The United States has the power
to lean on these producing countries, and stop making war on our own
people.
