LAWMAKERS CAN STOP DUIs
Regarding "Man Charged With DUI Deaths" (Metro, Aug. 21st): There is
killing going on in America today that many people refuse to
acknowledge. The problem is drunk driving. A five-year war in Iraq
cost over 4,100 American lives and people are disgusted. Drunk drivers
claim over 15,000 lives per year and many people look the other way.
Alcohol-related accidents kill innocent people. There are laws on the
books to restrict drunks from using cars as deadly weapons, and every
lawmaker we know claims to want to keep drunk drivers off the road.
But the legal system is badly broken and in need of immediate repair.
The state of Florida should treat drunk drivers with the same asperity
as a drug bust and confiscate the vehicle.
