DRUG PROHIBITION THE WRONG IDEA
Editor:
Re: Tackling the drug trade, Free Press, August 15.
The way Victor Bowman writes, it seems the cure for the woes caused by
prohibition is more prohibition. This, to me, this is like treating a
heroin overdose with a whopping great dose of more heroin.
The best way to reduce the dangers of the "drug trade" is to regulate
it. We don't see bar and liquor store owners involved in shootouts,
because their highly addictive and wildly destructive merchandise is
"legal.
Regulate all drugs, and crime will drop. If I am wrong, then, by that
same thinking, we should re-criminalize alcohol in an effort to make
the product and the community safer.
