GREED AT THE CORE?

To the Editor:

Oh please! Anyone that would espouse the growing of marijuana as a
cash crop for Mendocino County is the kind of greedy thinking that has
caused the problems we are fighting here now.

We are an apple, plum, hops, hay and other small money items. We also
have wineries that have bottles of wine that used to sell for $3.50
for sale at $14 and telling everyone it is a great deal but things
change and that is OK with me. To use something that is a psychotropic
drug and say it is no worse than alcohol, which it is not, is just
stupid. Sure alcohol is a drug but most of us don't drink to stupidity.

Those of us that do should be taken off the roads and put into rehab
until we are wrung out and put to dry. There is no such thought about
those that smoke marijuana. It has been called a medicine by those
that have never looked up the meaning of the word. Sure it makes you
feel good and gives you an appetite so you want to eat but to say this
is a wonderful boon for those with AIDS and cancer and migraine
headaches and... well there it is. We have been sold on the medicine
issue and the natural compassion we feel for those that suffer from
illness and have done stupid things that have furthered those that
profit from the growth of marijuana. To hold K. C. as some kind of
liar because she printed only the truth is non productive. K.C.
probably disagrees with most of what I write because I am someone that
believes only in provable truth and the laws of this nation. Laws are
made two ways. They are passed by Legislators that are pushed one way
or another, depending on the loudest voices and by the vote of the
people. Any law must stand the test of the Constitution of the US.

There is nothing in the Constitution about marijuana or any other
drug. Why is that? It is because our forefathers did not want the
people to be guided by anyone, particularly the few that know what is
best. Morals can not be legislated and they knew that better than
anyone. I feel, with many others, that the war against drugs is an
exercise in frustration because you can not legislate morals. When you
make a drug illegal you create an entire new group of criminals. Those
that manufacture the drug and sell it and those that use the drug. If
you want to do something to allow you to do whatever you want just get
Congress to delete any drug laws from the record and end the drug war.

If you want to see how that works, go to Denmark and see how wonderful
it is. Never try to tell me how bad it is to eliminate an illegal drug
just because we are different here in California. Don't try to get
sympathy from me for a cash crop that is illegal. Change the laws,
wipe out drug laws. When all things are legal then I will not have a
leg to stand on. Until that happens, never mind.
