Psychemedics sells drug test service to consumers
BOSTON, April 16 (Reuter) Psychemedics Corp. will begin selling its hair
analysis drug testing services to consumers this weekend at Walgreen Co
stores, the company's president said on Wednesday.
The Cambridge, Massachusetts headquartered firm, which usually serves
corporations and municipalities who test their workers for drug use, will be
making its services available to consumers, Psychemedics President Raymond
Kubacki, Jr. said in a telephone interview.
At $59.95 a test, a consumer can collect a hair sample and send it to the
company's laboratory, based in Culver City, Calif., where it will be tested
for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, methamphetamines and PCP. The tests can
determine whether any of these substances have been used within the last 90
days, Kubacki said.
"We're not changing our focus," Kubacki said. "We're making this available
because we had a lot of requests from parents for our patented technology."
The test, known as PDT90, is the company's only product.
