Boy Brings Heroin to School
YORK, Pa. (AP) A 9yearold boy who took 22 plastic bags of heroin to
school and showed them to classmates has been suspended for 10 days but will
not be charged with a crime.
The boy told police he didn't know who put the bags in his uncle's jacket,
which he accidentally wore to school Friday.
A teacher at Jackson Elementary School discovered the drugs as the boy showed
the bags to other students, prosecutor William Graff said Monday. Police said
two bags were found in a classroom and other bags were found outside.
Police officers took the boy home and searched it with his mother's
permission. They said they found the boy's uncle, Luis Ortiz, in a bedroom
with a halfempty pack of heroin labeled ``Ebony,'' the same word that
appeared on the bags taken to school.
Ortiz, 33, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with the intent
to deliver heroin and endangering the welfare of children.
The boy's mother, who wouldn't give her name, said her son has never been in
trouble with drugs before and was unaware the bags were filled with drugs.
