Mexico Raids Home of Top Mexican Druglord

MEXICO CITY, April 22 (Reuter) Mexican authorities on Tuesday launched a
raid on a Mexico City home belonging to the country's most notorious drug
baron, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) said.

No one was arrested, but authorities uncovered key evidence that should lead
them to ``other homes and people related to this drug trafficker,'' according
to a news release issued by the PGR.

``The search of the home was the result of investigations seeking to locate
and detain the known drug trafficer Amado Carrillo Fuentes, alias 'The Lord
of the Skies,' and members of his criminal organisation,'' the release said.
The alias comes from his preferred method of transporting illegal drugs with
an aircraft fleet.

Carrillo Fuentes, whose cartel controls the middle section of the
U.S.Mexican border while rival organisations work to the east and west, is
best known for having brought down Mexico's former drug czar, Gen. Jesus
Gutierrez Rebollo.

Gutierrez Rebollo was fired and arrested in February, allegedly for taking
bribes from Carrillo Fuentes in exchange for protection. The fallen general
is believed to have tipped off the drug lord to a raid on his sister's
wedding in January in which Carrillo Fuentes narrowly escaped capture.

The home searched on Tuesday in an upscale neighbourhood in the south of
Mexico City was used most by the drug lord's son, Vicente Carrillo Leyva, 20
years old, and a key player in the cartel, the PGR said.

Described by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as ``the most
powerful man in the Mexican drug trade,'' Carrillo Fuentes has been a
fugitive for eight years and is the subject of 26 separate DEA
investigations.
