were presented in the following six categories:

* Theatrical Films: "Trainspotting," which showed in gritty detail the
underbelly of illegal heroin use among youth.

* Television Series Episode: The award was shared by "Holly Jolly Christmas"
episode of ABC's "Grace Under Fire" and the "Inspiration" episode of WB TV
Network's "The Parent `Hood."

* Television Movies: "Drunks," a Showtime Networks/The Shooting Gallery
production that dealt with addictionrelated issues.

* Television Reality Programs: The "Heroin Alert" segment of "The Geraldo
Rivera Show."

Affairs at ABC, Inc., for his work with the Veritas Young Mothers, Infants
and Toddlers Program which dealt with violence, alcohol, general drug use,
and HIV/AIDS.

campaign which focused on a wide range of issues including violence,
HIV/AIDS, alcohol, drunk driving, cigarettes and drugs.

The Larry Stewart Leadership and Inspiration Awards, named in memory of the
writer/director/producer and founding board director of EIC who died last
month, were awarded to producer Dick Wolf and actress/producer Mariette
Hartley.

Presenters included Michele Lee ("Knots Landing"), Annie Potts ("Dangerous
Minds") and Lisa Vidal ("High Incident"). Casey Kasem hosted the event.

"Our support of these awards is the most direct action NIDA has taken to
acknowledge the efforts of people in the entertainment industry that impact
on drug use and violence in society," said NIDA Director Alan I. Leshner,
Ph.D.

"EIC believes that we need to recognize and congratulate people who take
risks in the creative choices they make when developing and producing
entertainment products," said Brian Dyak, EIC President and CEO.

EIC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 as a bridge between the
industry and public policy makers on public health and social issues.

NIDA is an institute of the National Institutes of Health and supports over
85% of the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and
addiction.
