THE REAL PROBLEM
RE: 'Drug-sniffing dogs in the classroom?' (May 27).
It is a sad day for Canadian society when our police forces feel
compelled to order narco-sweeps of our children's classrooms by the
canine drug squad.
We should ask ourselves what kind of message this sends to our
children. Do we really want to foster a cloud of suspicion within our
society similar to the darkest days of the Stalin era?
Of course, we should be able to deal with drug-usage by our children
but is police intervention really necessary? Drug abuse is a health
problem, not a crime.
