American Council For Drug Education Responds to `Bad Dope' on the Internet
NEW YORK, June 13 /PRNewswire/ The American Council for Drug
Education (ACDE) has launched a new, flashanimated website,
http://www.acde.org, that empowers parents and children to travel
together in cyberspace to learn about the dangers of drugs.
Dynamic characters lead children, adolescents and their parents on
an animated voyage through the human body that details the effects of
drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, marijuana and cocaine.
"Families can go to this website to share an important educational
experience that, hopefully, will also encourage communications between
parents and kids," noted ACDE Director Martha Gagne.
ACDE, the education and prevention affiliate of Phoenix House, one
of the country's largest substance abuse services agencies, has launched
http://www.acde.org in response to the increasing barrage of conflicting
information about drugs on the internet and other broadcast media, Gagne
said.
"ACDE.ORG offers scientifically accurate data on substances and
their abuse to counteract the often misleading material that now clogs up
traffic on the information highway."
A Scientific Advisory Board of more than a dozen leading
physicians, scientists and academics reviews all of the ACDE's material
before it is released on the web.
ACDE.ORG's resource page offers uptodate news and research about
substance abuse, as well as hyperlinks to other relevant sites.
The site was recently chosen as Yahoo's Daily Pick of
newlylaunched web sites.
Founded in 1967, Phoenix House is one of the nation's largest
nonprofit providers of substance abuse treatment, prevention and
education services, with programs in New York, New Jersey, California and
Texas.
