Hempflavored drink hits UK stores, but not minds
LONDON (Reuter) Britons with that dry taste in their mouths can now reach
for a new thirst quencher hempflavored soda.
But those seeking the effects of marijuana, hemp's illicit derivative, should
not get their hopes too high.
The citrus soda is called Hemp, but all psychoactive substances have been
weeded out, according to Shackleford Sales Ltd, which imports the
Germanowned brand.
"We are targeting consumers who are looking for a premium energy soft
drink," a spokeswoman said Wednesday, adding that Britain's Home Office has
confirmed that the drink has no illegal substances.
The soda contains caffeine and vitamins as well as hemp oil, which lays on a
nutty flavor, the company said.
The product, being sold since May at the upmarket department store
Selfridges, was previously rolled out in Germany by Designer Food
International.
