U.S. law enforcement agencies allege these are leaders of
Mexico's four biggest drugtrafficking gangs:
AMADO CARRILLO FUENTES Head of Juarez organization and
Mexico's No. 1 cocaine trafficker. Known as ``Lord of the Skies''
for use of Boeing 727s and other big jets to fly Colombian cocaine
into Mexico. Operations reportedly generate tens of millions of
dollars weekly. Under U.S. federal indictment on smuggling charges
in Texas and Florida. Allegedly employed Mexico's former drug czar,
army Gen. Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo, who was arrested in February.
ARELLANO FELIX BROTHERS Benjamin, Ramon, Francisco Javier and
Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix form the Tijuana cartel, Mexico's
most violent. They transport multiton loads of cocaine and
marijuana into United States, large quantities of heroin and
methamphetamine. Inherited gang from cousin Miguel Angel Felix
Gallardo, ``godfather of Mexican drug trafficking'' jailed in
Mexico since 1989. Francisco Rafael is behind bars, but three other
brothers are wanted in Mexico in 1993 murder of Roman Catholic
cardinal.
MIGUEL CARO QUINTERO Brother of Rafael Caro Quintero, who is
imprisoned in Mexico for role in 1985 killing of U.S. drug agent
Enrique Camarena. With brothers Jorge and Genaro, reportedly
operates from northern border state of Sonora and specializes in
cultivation and distribution of marijuana. Also allegedly
transports and distributes cocaine and methamphetamine. Arrested on
Mexican tax charges in 1992, but U.S. authorities say he used
bribes and threats to get charges dismissed. Named in several U.S.
indictments.
JESUS AMEZCUA CONTRERAS Reportedly runs one of the world's
largest methamphetamine production and trafficking rings. Operates
out of Guadalajara with his brothers, Adan and Luis. Also one of
world's biggest smugglers of ephedrine, major ingredient in
methamphetamine.
