BMA Back Legalisation
The BMA is backing the legalisation of cannabis for medical purposes, GP
has learnt.
The support comes in a BMA working party report of cannabis legalisation
due to be presented to the council meeting in July and published in
September.
Before the report is presented, BMA members are to discuss the issue at the
annual delegate conference in Edinburgh next Monday.
A motion calling for the drug to be legalised for medicinal use has been
given priority status for debate.
A BMA spokeswoman confirmed that the association was backing legalisation
but added: "The sticking point is that even if it does have therapeutic
benefits it is difficult to carry out research because it is an illegal
drug."
